Our message to young people of Guyana is that you will have to live TOGETHER in this country long after the politicians who are inciting you to riot and destroy your communities and relationships you have created with neighbours and friends over the years, are dead and gone. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO IS ENCOURAGING YOU TO RIOT?
For 23 years, the PPPC called opposition party supporters who were fighting for democracy, transparency and justice hooligans. Mark Benschop was imprisoned. Crum Ewing and Waddell were murdered. 4 protestors were murdered in Linden, while Eddie Collins and other opposition party members where shot for insisting that ballots be counted.
Now here we are in 2020 and PPPC supporters, under direction from party leaders, are physically attacking children and policemen and destroying the property of coalition supporters. Their language is filled with hatred and racism and even on social media, ‘good friends’ of different races are disappointing each other with crass and racist posts.
The consequence of the destruction of trust within communities will be felt for decades to come if we do not reject the racist narratives we are fed by greedy, ambitious, power hungry politician.
