“Several media entities have contacted the Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) to advise of a refutation by PPP member of Parliament, Anil Nandlall, of his second hand perception of CGID’s contention in a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana, Dr. Barton Scotland, that Article 156.3 (a) and (b) of the Guyana constitution appear to prohibit a member of the National Assembly from acting against the party’s list from which his or her name was extracted to be a member of the Assemble or from acting in support of another list.
It appears that Mr. Nandlall might be mistaken. As he himself admitted his information is second hand. It is therefore obvious that his comments were entirely derived from bad and erroneous information he received, based on a version of the letter, with a typo in the referenced Article of the constitution, that was posted on social media, and not from the actual letter to the Speaker.
But rather than split hairs on the semantics of a number that was typed incorrectly in the excerpt from the construction, in a letter he admitted only hearing about, we invite Mr. Nandlall to examine the content of Article 156. 3 (a) and (b) of the Guyana Constitution and the merits of CGID’s contention in its letter to the Speaker.”
