Georgetown, Guyana – Former President Jagdeo; who is also the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party and himself accused of approving extrajudicial killings in Guyana, has a problem. Because he is by nature dictatorial, he has the burden of choosing the next PPPC presidential candidate. The challenge for Jagdeo is the search to find that perfect PPPC candidate, who will fit his numerous criteria for the role.
In Former President Bharrat Jagdeo’s mind, it matters not if the next PPPC presidential candidate has integrity, is learned or experienced enough to lead the country. Despite what he says about young upstart Charles Ramson Jr., what is important to him, is that the next PPPC candidate for president is loyal to him; not very intelligent (even if he feels himself to be); is male (Jagdeo doesn’t really trust women}; is criminally compromised in some way (so as to allow Jagdeo to consolidate his control over said candidate least he decides to reject Jagdeo), and finally, this person must share Jagdeo’s duplicitous, deceitful, power hungry, world view.
The top candidates that meet this criteria are Former AG Anil Nandlall and Former Housing Minister Irfaan Ally. The problem is, both of his top candidates are alleged to be under investigation for very serious crimes. While these facts are of no consequence to former President Bharrat Jagdeo, the PPPC supporters deserve better, Guyana deserves better.
While there are those who will make the case that Dr Frank Anthony was responsible for rife corruption under his watch at Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture, he might very well still be the most qualified presidential candidate of the PPPC front runners.
Additionally, Former Minister of Education, Attorney Priya Manickchand, despite her penchant for theatrics and public ‘cuss outs’, and despite the fact that she is not a PPPC party member (which can be easily remedied); is both intelligent and popular, but alas, both she and Dr Frank Anthony are out of luck during this political cycle. They will have to settle for playing the enthusiastic and supporting cheerleaders to one of the two bombastic and corrupt PPPC front runners Anil Nandlall or Irfaan Ally.
Why party insiders or PPPC supporters do not insist that Jagdeo display some level of respect and decency in choosing his next presidential candidate, is beyond this writer’s ability to comprehend, but the people of Guyana deserve better. The indecent Bharrat Jagdeo will not give them better however, not in 2019, not ever. The people of Guyana will have a tarry a while longer before better comes to PPPC politics in Guyana.
If the 2 major raves are reduced to the level of down play based on KILLINGS in the context of extra judicial ones, it is a sign that the last straw has been turned.
Divide the country .Let the blacks and INDIANS go their own ways .
TALKS about killings and retaliation is not doing the country any good.
