GECOM is under no obligation to accede to the request of President Granger, Opposition Leader Jagdeo and The Caribbean Heads Of State to grant a recount of region 4. In fact, this group has no locus standi to make such a request. Additionally, none of the parties requesting a recount appointed counting agents within the statutory period and / or did not properly present their requests to the Returning Officer for Region 4.
It is our own view, that no such approval for recount could possibly be made without recounts for all other regions. We are reliably aware of massive rigging in regions 2, 3, 6, and 4. PPPC Returning Officers have already turned down requests for recounts in PPPC areas.
Citizens of Guyana should be advised that Prime Minister Motley’s release, while appreciated, is not in keeping with the laws of Guyana. GECOM is an independent body and it is the GECOM officials who, notwithstanding death threats from PPPC supporters, must decide on these important matters.
