The counting process started in good faith and with the highest professional standards to which the international and locally accredited observers bear witness and complimented. As the counting reached region 4, the working environment became increasingly hostile and threatening. The CEO was abused, the staff threatened and gun touting individuals ran free in GECOM’s region 4 office.
The GECOM office should be a sterile, safe, space, free from terror. However, duress escalated to the highest possible level and the work environment became untenable. An atmosphere of fear and trepidation ensued.
The hostilities and siege of GECOM’s region 4 office did not see a defense from the international observers, and locally accredited entities. One would have expected swift condemnation of the ensuing fracas. It is hypocritical for the international observes only to condemn GECOM’s actions to salvage the situation.
Information surged that for example a a locally accredited entity brought in a mix of experts to interfere with the process, among other things. It became obvious that the situation was deteriorating and no one could be trusted. Hence, it could be concluded that GECOM not choice but to use available objective methodology to do their work and arrive at a result that is now being contested.
The aftermath reaction is now showing clearly from media videos and information circulating that the PPP engaged a massive plan to rig the elections and discredit GECOM. It is clear they now want the coalition victory to be tarnished and to keep Guyana under siege until they return to office. This must not be allowed to happen. The people of Guyana must reject the evil, wicked plans of Jagdeo and his lapdog cronies.
